Vodafone Unveils Two Phones for Emerging Markets

Entry level phone was really a temptating market for handset manufacturers but not only, britain's Vodafone operator will soon join the club!

According to the Reuters, Vodafone on Monday unveiled two new own-branded mobile handsets it plans to sell for $25 to $45 to boost sales in developing economies of Asia and Africa.

The one of world's biggest mobile operators said it expected to sell over a million of the two phones within a year.
Vodafone said the phones, manufactured by Chinese handset maker ZTE Corp. (0763.HK), would be shipped to Egypt, Romania and South Africa in the next two weeks, with 15 other markets set to follow in coming months.

In this market, Vodafone will compete with Nokia and Motorola. The world's biggest mobile operator by sales will directly compete with Nokia's cheap phone handsets which recently become the world's top-selling consumer electronics product by surpassed the 200 million-unit milestones.

Note that the Finnish phone maker also unveiled seven new models recently (Nokia 1200/1208/1650/2660/2505/2630/2760), the new products will be available in the second and third quarter of 2007 in select markets.  Estimated retail prices, before applicable taxes and subsidies range from 35 EUR (48$) to 90 EUR (125$)
